3 Physical description of well and its surroundings

The well “is located in an area called Paddy’s Hill, now situated within Robswall Park, south of Robswall Castle. The area is rich in archeological remains. The well exists at the head of an overgrown ditch and a small stream flows from it down to a large hollow at the junction of two footpaths. This hollow is the site of a previous pump house and it is often confused as being the well itself. St Patrick’s Well is a small rectangular pool of clear water roughly lined with flat stones” (Branigan 2012:47).
