“Close to the well was an enormous stone with the marks of St Patrick’s fingers. In the 1930s it is said that the stone had originally been thrown from the summit of the Hill of Tara, but by the 1930s had been removed from the well. A long lane was the only entrance from the road. The water was perfectly pure and it was not used for domestic purposes” (French 2012: 7).
