The well is located by “the church at Kilbride, Dunboyne…dedicated to the Sacred Heart and St Brigid. There is a tradition in the parish that St Brigid founded a church here. A well, near the gate of the graveyard at Baytown, is called St Brigid’s Well. This well is recorded as Tobar Bhrighde or Bridewell in the 1830s” (French 2012: 32).

“St Brigid’s day was a holiday in the parish in the early 1800s. The old church was erected in 1789 and the new church opened in 1930. St Brigid’s Well was restored in 1993 by the local ICA and blessed. The patron day of Kilbride is St Brigid’s Day” (French 2012: 32).
