5 Pattern day

"It was the site [of] a significant pattern and was the starting point in Dublin for pilgrimages to the shrine of St James in Santiago de Compostella, Spain. It was the tradition in living memory to carry coffins three times around the fountain before burial in the nearby St James’s graveyard, probably a relic of an old custom associated with the holy well” (Branigan 2012: 82).
