The well is beside an Augustinian nunnery and near Killone Lake. It is well maintained and surrounded by a garden of sorts with a bench and large, painted crucifix (Houlihan 2015: 68).

June 23, Saint John's Eve/Midsummer's Eve. People used to light fires around the well and have a festival on the pattern day (Houlihan 2015: 67).

"The folklore links the origin of the well to 1190 when a blind man heard a voice telling him to remove his footwear and walk around the well three times. This he did and his sight was restored" (Houlihan 2015: 66).
